Accurate Insights for Your Pet’s Health
Thorough Evaluation for Better Health Outcomes
Rapid, Reliable Testing for Every Pet
Laboratory testing is a cornerstone of veterinary care. At Alameda Veterinary Clinic, our in-house lab allows us to deliver fast and accurate results that help detect hidden health problems, monitor organ function, and guide treatment decisions.
While some specialized tests are sent to external reference laboratories, many essential screenings can be performed immediately in our clinic. Quick access to results allows us to make informed decisions and begin treatment without unnecessary delays.
Our in-house lab offers a broad range of vital tests, including:
- Blood panels for sick pets or pre-surgical evaluations
- Complete Blood Count (CBC) to check for infection, anemia, and immune response
- Electrolyte testing to assess hydration and organ function
- Urinalysis and fecal testing to detect infections, parasites, or digestive issues
- Cytology exams for skin issues, ear infections, or abnormal growths
- Rapid “snap” tests for heartworm, FeLV, and other infectious diseases
For more specialized testing or confirmation, we work closely with trusted external laboratories. This two-tiered approach ensures broader testing capabilities and accurate interpretation of complex results.
We also recommend pre-surgical bloodwork before any elective procedure. These tests help detect underlying conditions that could affect anesthesia safety or recovery.
Our team is always available to explain the purpose of each test and guide you through the process.
Safe, Non-Invasive Insight into Internal Health
Ultrasound is a valuable, non-invasive tool that allows us to examine internal organs and detect conditions not visible during a physical exam. At Alameda Veterinary Clinic, we use high-frequency sound waves to generate real-time images, providing accurate and gentle evaluations of your pet’s health.
During the procedure, a small handheld probe is placed on your pet’s skin. Sound waves bounce off internal tissues and organs, producing live images that allow our veterinary team to see what’s happening inside your pet’s body.
Ultrasound is particularly helpful for evaluating:
- Abdominal organs such as the liver, kidneys, bladder, gallbladder, and spleen
- Pregnancy and fetal development
- Masses or tumors for detection and staging
- Internal fluid accumulation or bleeding
- Digestive or urinary tract issues
Ultrasound is also used to examine the heart (echocardiography) to assess valve function, muscle contractions, and blood flow, helping detect heart disease or congenital defects early.
Most pets tolerate ultrasound well, and mild sedation may be used only when needed to keep your pet comfortable. For advanced evaluations, we collaborate with veterinary specialists who can provide on-site imaging appointments, minimizing stress and travel for your pet.
